Professor Barry M. Zide MD DMD

 

 

Dr. Zide studied dentistry and medicine at Tufts University Schools of Dental Medicine and Medicine and graduated with honors. He did residencies in surgery in Stanford Medical Center and plastic surgery in North Carolina Memorial Hospital of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He did fellowships in head and neck surgery and oncology in Roswell Park Memorial Institute, Buffalo, New York, in microsurgery with Dr. Harry Bunke, Jr., M.D., Ralph K. Davies Medical Center, Franklin Hospital, San Francisco, California and in Craniofacial Surgery, with Drs. John Marquis Converse and Joseph G. McCarthy, New York University Medical Center, Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, New York City.  He was then appointed Assistant Professor of Surgery, Department of Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, Virginia and moved to New York University as Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery in 1981. He was appointed Associate Professor in 1982 and Professor in 1999. He also holds appointments with Bellevue Hospital Center, New York, Manhattan Veterans Administration Hospital, New York, Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital, New York, Lenox Hill Hospital, New York, Beth Israel Medical Center North, New York, and Hospital for Joint Diseases, New York.

Dr. Zide serves in numerous Academic and Professional Committees including Roswell Park Surgical Society, Womack Surgical Society, Converse Surgical Society, American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons, New York County Medical Society, New York Regional Society of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons, American Society of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Northeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons, International Society of Craniomaxillofacial Surgery, Cleft Lip and Palate Society, Northwest Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Association of Plastic Surgeons.

Dr. Zide has a vast teaching experience with more than 200 presentations, courses and lectures delivered in national and international scientific meetings around the world.  He has been a Visiting Professor in 15 Universities including the Johns Hopkins Medical School, Baltimore, Maryland, the University of Miami, the University of Illinois, Chicago, the Georgetown University, Washington, the George Washington University, and Yale University, Connecticut. His main research interests include clinical studies of Facial Disfigurement and Repair, specifically related to vascular melanocytic growths and Anatomic Studies related to Facial Surgical Techniques.

Dr. Zide has published 2 books, contributed with chapters in 19 books and has published more than 100 papers in peer reviewed journals. He is a reviewer for the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the Annals of Plastic Surgery.
