Professor Robert C. Russell MD FRACS FACS

Dr. Robert C. Russell received his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine and was a resident in general surgery there. He received his plastic surgery training at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. He was a James W. Strickland Fellow in hand surgery at St. Vincent's Hospital of Indianapolis and later completed a microsurgery fellowship at St. Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.
Dr. Russell is a diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons, and a member of the American College of Surgeons. He also has a certificate of added qualification in hand surgery from the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Russell has served as Vice Chairman of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and was President of the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery, the American Association for Hand Surgery, and the Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation. He is currently the President elect of the American Society for Peripheral Nerve. He is also Chief of Service at Heartland Plastic Surgery Center and Clinical Professor of Surgery at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.
Dr. Russell currently serves as an editor several peer reviewed medical journals. He has helped create educational materials for teaching, including slide presentations, videotapes, and instructional courses. He has contributed to over 87 articles, and 40 book chapters to date, and has edited several textbooks.
Dr. Russell volunteers his time as a surgeon and teacher with Operation Smile International caring for children with congenital facial deformities and burns in many countries around the world.
