Professor Stefan Hofer MD, PhD

 

 

Dr. Hofer received his medical degree and his PhD at the University of Amsterdam. He finished his Plastic Surgery training at the University Medical Center in Groningen. After his training he became the first Plastic Surgeon to be awarded the highly prestigious Dutch Cancer Society clinical fellowship, which funded his one-year fellowship at the Bernard O’Brien Institute of Microsurgery at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.

Dr. Hofer has authored over 50 peer reviewed scientific publications. He is the Deputy Editor of the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (JPRAS). His general interest is in reconstructive surgery of the face, head & neck and breast, with a special emphasis on oncology. He was Head of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgical Oncology at the Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam, The Netherlands before becoming Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery and Wharton Chair of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at University Health Network in Toronto, Canada. His clinical research focuses on technical improvements of reconstructive techniques, and functional and aesthetic outcomes after reconstructive surgery.
