Professor Ralph William Gilbert, MD, FRCSC, FACS

Dr. Gilbert is a Professor in the Departments of Otolaryngology / Head and Neck Surgery and the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto. He completed his undergraduate training at the University of Toronto in 1980. His residency training was in Surgery and Otolaryngology at the University of Toronto and he is currently a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Gilbert did post residency fellowships in Head and Neck Oncology at the University of Toronto and Microvascular Surgery at the University of Linkoping in Sweden. Dr. Gilbert currently is the Chair of the Head and Neck Program at the Princess Margaret Hospital and chairs the Cancer Care Ontario Program in Evidence Based Medicine for Head and Neck Oncology.
Dr. Gilbert’s academic focus is in head and neck oncology and reconstructive microsurgery. His current research is focused in clinical trials in Head and Neck Oncology and outcomes based research in Head and Neck with a particular focus on the outcomes related to reconstruction and function. His current focus is in laryngeal and maxillary reconstruction. Dr. Gilbert has extensive clinical experience in reconstructive microsurgery of the head and neck and provides the only microvascular fellowship training in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery in Canada.
