Luis
Soto Diaz is Chief of the Team of Oncologic Surgery of the Department of
Surgery of the DIPRECA Hospital in Chile.
He is currently also Permanent General Secretary of the South American Federation of Societies of Head and Neck Surgery; President of the Oncologic Committee of the DIPRECA Hospital; and Consultant Advisor in Oncology for the Honorable Commission of Preventive Medicine of the Chilean Police.
He qualified as a physician from the Medicine Faculty of the University of Chile, in May of 1968 and practiced as a general surgeon until 1974. In this year he began his surgical specialization in oncologic surgery and gained a postgraduate title in head and neck surgery from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Chile and the Institute of the Cancer in Santiago from Chile.
In 1980 he was appointed head of the Head and Neck Cancer Team of the Institute of Cancer, Chile, a position that he occupied along side that of President of the Oncologic Committee of this Institution until 1985. In this year he assumed his current position of Chief of the Team of Oncologic Surgery at the DIPRECA Hospital. In 2002 he was appointed head of the Unit of Registration and Pursuit of Cancer of the Hospital which advises on policy issues in relation to cancer in the Institution.
He is also a Regular Member of the Societies of Surgeons from Chile; of the Society of Surgery of Head Neck and Plastic Maxillofacial of Chile; and of the Latin American Society of Thyroid, (SLAT). He is a Founder Member of the Society of Mastologia of Chile; of the Department of Surgery Laparoscopic of the Society of Surgeons of Chile; and of the Latin Society of Head and Neck. He is Corresponding Foreigner Member of the Peruvian Society of Surgery of Head and Neck; of the Societie of Cancerology of Rio Grande del Sur in Brazil; and of the Italian Society of Surgery Oncologic, (SICO).
He participates actively in varied Protocols of Investigation in Cancer and as a Member of the Editorial Board of the Journal for ORL and its related Specialties of Karger AG; of the Brazilian Journal of Head and Neck Surgery; and of the Journal of Thyroid and Parathyroid Glands of the National University of Rosario in Argentina.
He has participated as Assistant, Invited Professor, Coordinator, or Organizer in courses, work-shops, congresses, or symposia, and spoken at conferences or courses on general cancer and of head and neck in more than 70 opportunities in Chile and abroad; and has more than 30 published works including communications, free works and book chapters.
