Professor David John David AC MD, FRCS (Ed), FRCS (Eng), FRACS (Plast)
Professor David is the Head of the Australian Craniofacial Unit, Senior Visiting Plastic Surgeon at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, and Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Adelaide. He is also Clinical Professor of Craniofacial Surgery at the University of Adelaide, Australia. After finishing his medical studies at the University of Adelaide, Professor David specialized in General Surgery in England qualifying FRCS Ed and FRCS Eng in 1970 and 1971. From 1970-1973 he specialized in plastic surgery at the Southwest Regional Plastic and Jaw Unit, Frenchay Hospital, Bristol, UK and received his FRACS in Plastic Surgery in 1973. After serving as Research Fellow with Dr. Paul Tessier in Paris, France and Dr. Tord Skoog in Uppsala, Sweden, Professor David returned to Australia serving as Chief of Surgery at Women’s and Children’s Hospital Adelaide and Head in the Departments of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery of Royal Adelaide Hospital and Women’s and Children’s Hospital. He was awarded an MD in 1998 from Adelaide University. Professor David is President of the Australian Craniomaxillofacial Foundation and the Australian Craniofacial Institute and has served as President of the International Society of Craniofacial Surgery, the Asian Pacific Craniofacial Association, the Australian and New Zealand Society of Craniomaxillofacial Surgeons and the International Society of Craniofacial Surgeons. Professor David was the recipient of many honors and awards among which the Hunterian Professorship of the Royal College of Surgeons, England, the Cairns Society Paediatric Society Lecturer of the Adelaide University Medical School and a recipient of the Variety Humanitarian Award, the Distinguished Service to Children Award and the Anzac Peace Award. For his achievements to medicine and to society he was awarded the title of Companion of the Order of Australia in 1988. Professor David has published extensively with more than 200 peer reviewed papers being published in national and international medical journals. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Craniomaxillofacial Surgery and a Reviewer for the British Journal of Plastic Surgery. He is a member in numerous professional societies and associations and has been a Visiting Professor at the University of California, the Medical College of Wisconsin, the Cleveland Clinic and the Montefiore Hospital in New York as well as in many other Universities and Hospitals in South East Asia. Professor David has participated in numerous Congresses around the World delivering seminars, lectures and presentations.
